Hi everybody!
Alright, so I admit it. I've lost my killer instinct. When you don't have the "Y" hike twice a week, it's hard to keep momentum going. I will be glad when it's warm again. I'm back on the wagon this week, though!
How has everyone been doing? Don't forget that tomorrow morning is weigh day again! For those of you that have fallen behind, don't worry about trying to remember your weights over the course of the last two weeks... just start fresh tomorrow.
This week's challenge will be WATER. Take your body weight, divide it in half and drink that many ounces of water every day this week.
Love ya'll! Let's get this party going! :-)

False Start Numero Uno!
Okay, so lets just chalk this weekend up to a False Start! I am still as determined as ever, but Saturday got away from me as it usually does! I am anxious to get a solid week under my belt, and so in light of my "False Start" on Saturday, I am starting over on my quest for 31 straight days of exercise! As Monday's are typically crappy days, I have no idea what exercise I will do, but I am highly optimistic that something will come to me as I sit here eating my bon bons.....JUST KIDDING! I just wanted to see if anyone was listening :)

1 DOWN...30 TO GO!
Okay so for the purpose of this daily record, I am counting 31 days of consistent exercise excluding Sundays. So my 31 days started today, and will end on the 10th of February!
I am reminded of the day in the distant past out at the Ruby Valley Ranch visiting Grandma and Granpa Smith. I trully loved that place. The sights and smells of Grandmas house were wonderful and enchanting and I often think of days we spent there. Today in particular though, I am reminded of a specific day in which my pallet will never be the same. We came in from outside to the most delicious smell of something frying! It was an amazing combo of bacon and sausage mingled with the everpresent essence of Cheese Whiz, the greatest invention of the 21st century I might add. When I asked what smelled so delightful, I was prompted by Gma Smith to sit and have some "Rocky Mountain Oysters"...uh-huh that's right, you know where I am going with this. At my youthful age of 10 or so, I had never heard of them, but boy did they smell good! I quickly obliged and after burning my tongue on the first one, proceeded to shovel several into my mouth exclaiming to my grandma that she was the best cook ever, and that these were my new favorite treat. My grandma had that familiar twinkle in her eye, she often had that look when she had conned one of us into eating a vegetable or something we claimed to not like, so I asked her, "is this from a pig?" She quickly replied that they were not from a pig, but from the calves that had come in for branding. After an extended pause where I racked my brain trying to figure out how branding would produce such perfectly round little morsels of goodness, I decided to just ask her. She, again with the twinkle, replied calmly that they weren't from the branding part but the castrating part! Now I'm no dummy! I had watched many a rubber band being snapped into place on our sheep. It took about 30 seconds for that little delight in my mouth to become the most chewey, greasy, gamey piece of sh-- I had ever eaten! I have never, ever, EVER eaten them again! Though I pride myself, on being in on the secret of what the "Rocky Mountain Oyster" actually is. It is funny how by renaming something we can be lulled into thinking it is good. MY POINT? As I was sweating away on the treadmill, the thought of how much I'm not going to lose in this one exercise session would try to rear its ugly head, which usually leads to how out of shape I am, how much my feet, and knees, and calves are screaming at me to stop and finally to how great that frosting in the fridge is gonna taste when I give up on this dang treadmill and haul my flabby bum upstairs! But instead, today, but not calling it a weight loss session, just a goal to do some form of exercise, I smiled! I was actually smiling, because the minute I stepped on the treadmill, I had reached my goal! And while I was already down here I might as well stay for a bit and listen to my new Kelly Clarkson CD WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR WORKING OUT....WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER...STAND A LITTLE TALLER...DOESN'T MEAN I'M LONELY WHEN I'M ALONE!...you know you want to sing with me! Anyway, long story short....I am one for one on the workout challenge I gave myself! I am treating myself to a facial if I can accomplish this goal because I really love them :) I am already planning ahead on what I will try tomorrow for my "not workout"! Maybe I'll do "not" Yoga! Whatever it is I'll keep you posted!
Love you all!

No Excuses
Did you all watch Biggest Loser this week?
I did.
No Excuses.
My Excuses:
Healthy food is expensive.
Healthy food takes too much time to cook.
I hate exercise.
Exercise takes too much time.
And then I have to shower and dry my hair - even more time lost.
My knee hurts.
I have a cold.
It's too cold to walk outside.
And there are MANY others.
Can you identify with this? I'm sure we all have some of the same excuses.
Here are the reasons why I'm going to kick the excuses:
Skinny jeans
Compliments
More energy
Less sore knee
Self-confidence
Donate "Fat Clothes"
New (expensive) bathing suit
Pencil skirts
Running with the kids without getting tired
Less stomach problems
Sleeping better
How about you? What are your reasons to kick the excuses?
I'm also going to offer you a challenge each week. Here's week one's challenge --
Fruits and veggies. Every day this week, starting TODAY, everyone try to get 4 servings of fruit and vegetables in EVERY day. Remember - a serving is about the size of your fist. An apple, an orange, a pear, a handful of carrots or cucumbers. If you eat more fruit and veggies, you'll probably eat less of everything else!
GOOD LUCK!

The Progress Report Post
Alright. Although by now I'm sure that I'm the only person posting on and checking this blog anymore, I find it therapeutic and helpful to write how I feel and post my progress. If you do happen to check in, please comment with your own progress no matter how big or small. I've realized as I go along that even tiny progress is still progress!
I've lost 14 pounds since January 1st. YAY! I got off track after the 17 Day Diet thing blew up in my face, and right after that Shane bought me a veritable dump truck full of Dove chocolate for Valentine's Day. So for almost two weeks I had fallen off the wagon but, after Presidents Day, I got back on track. I'm working the Weight Watchers program but I'm not going to meetings. Sadly it's easier to cheat when nobody else will see the scale but I'm doing pretty well, even though I may or may not have been talked into a 99 cent root beer float at KFC last night by Colt. I'm also wearing a new graphic tee that says "Hershey's" on the front I cannot quit thinking about chocolate.
Small Accomplishments:
-Going to Jyze workouts 3x per week
-Drinking tons of water (interspersed by plenty of Diet Dr. Pepper, Coke Zero and Diet Mtn. Dew)
-Controlling portion sizes
-Realizing that I'm not always hungry when I'm bored
-Realizing that sometimes when I feel hungry I'm really thirsty! (BIG ONE FOR ME!)
-Trying to make smart choices (think light popcorn instead of potato chips)
-Controlling sweets
Things I suck at:
-Working out on Tuesday/Thursday
-Eating lots of fruits and vegetables (I got SO SICK of salad on the 17 Day Diet!)
-Getting back on track right away when I slip up (tortilla chips and salsa were my downfall yesterday)
New Finds:
-Extra Dessert Delights Gum. I love EVERY flavor, but especially the chocolate mint. I think the strawberry shortcake one makes my cravings a little worse, but the chocolate mint doesn't.
-Homemade, lowfat bleu cheese dressing. I mix it with Frank's Red Hot and put it on salad topped with chicken... YUM.
-Earth Grains Thin Buns. Mom showed me these forever ago and I'm just realizing how awesome they are. They're so good with an egg in the morning or tuna for lunch!
-Dove Dark Cherry Chocolates. I think these might have only been around for Valentine's Day :( They're dark chocolate (which I've read is good for belly fat) and are individually wrapped so I can keep my portions in check. Don't be scared if you do find some... they're just cherry flavored chocolate. None of that cherry goo inside! In fact, I love these so much that I dyed my hair red on Saturday, which is now my downfall. Every time I look in the mirror I think about cherry chocolates.
So what are your successes/downfalls? New realizations/finds? Discuss.

The Week Three Blahs
Statistics say that most people give up on their New Year's Resolution after about three weeks.
I can feel my resolve slipping.
I ate right and worked out HARD at Jyze. I had a killer workout on the elliptical trainer on Tuesday but couldn't squeeze in a workout on Thursday (it was Payton's Pinewood Derby) so I cleaned my house like a crazy person on Friday and sweated my guts out. I cheated a bit, had a little piece of chocolate cake on Friday when we had our D&D night and had a tiny slice of chocolate cream pie on Sunday for Shane's birthday. That couldn't effect me too much, could it?
Yesterday morning I weighed, thinking I'd probably only have lost a pound since I did cheat a little.
Nothing. In fact, I'd gained 0.2 pounds.
At that moment, I actually felt some of my willpower shoot out of my ears, float around my bedroom for a moment and seep out of my leaky windows, travelling to wherever broken willpower goes. What the heck!? I've been working so hard! We've been eating so healthy, tons of veggies and super lean meats, drinking tons of water, limiting sugar and carbs and everything yummy!
See, on Weight Watchers I never had a plateau problem. I guess I thought I was immune. We're following the 17 Day Diet plan and the doc that wrote it says that you won't hit a plateau. Yeah, right.
So as difficult as it is, I'm sticking to the plan through the end of the week. If, by Friday, those scale numbers (and my hips!) haven't gotten a little smaller, I'm switching to Weight Watchers. At least then I can have chocolate as long as I count it!
Here's my positive note for the week: I taunted our Jyze instructor, Chris, into a plank war through Facebook on Friday morning and we taunted each other like crazy the rest of the day. He sent a huge message through FB to everyone he knew, and even texted all the members of our Jyze class to tell them about the plank war. Consequently, I started to panic and worried about it all weekend. I had taunted and trash-talked my way into a frenzy. Monday morning we got to Jyze and I could tell Chris was trying to wear my shoulders out so I would lose. I'm not going to lie -- I went a little easy on the shoulder workouts. Then it was time for the plank war. There were 8 people at class that morning. We got into plank position and I thought "This isn't so bad! I can do this for awhile." I did something that morning that I don't usually do for planks: I put my jacket under my elbows, thinking it would make it easier. After about 30 seconds, I realized I was DEAD WRONG. I felt like I was sliding! Time ticked by so slowly as one person, then another, then another dropped from exhaustion. I hung in there and forced myself to hold the position. Shane and Krysti kept telling me that Chris had to shift his position a few times. I knew I could beat him. Finally, after about 3 1/2 minutes, Chris fell. That left just Kandice (his wife) and me! We held in for another 30 seconds or so, then I couldn't take it anymore. I had beaten Chris, that was the important thing. Kandice won, just barely. If I didn't have these extra 40 pounds to hold up, I could've beaten her : )
So yeah, that was the highlight of my life!
I hope all of you are doing well! Let me know how it's going.... tell me I'm not the only one struggling!
Love you!

HELLO!.... Hello....hello....
Where ARE all of you!?!?! Am I the only one blathering on and on about my experience? C'mon people, is anybody out there in internet-land? Can anyone hear me? ECHO!....Echo....echo.....
So last week I sucked on half of the exercise portion of my commitment. I went to Jyze each day (albeit begrudgingly) but didn't work out on the elliptical trainer like I was supposed to. Boo! I am resolving to do better tonight and Thursday night.
Diet is going well... eating the same foods is getting more and more boring. But do I have a recipe for you!!
EGGPLANT PARMESAN:
You need:
1 eggplant
3 egg whites
1/2 c parmesan cheese (the kind in the green can -- less fat!)
Pam
Spaghetti Sauce (I bought the Hunts low-carb version)
Preheat your oven to 375. Peel one large eggplant and cut it in 1/4 inch thick slices, so you have a whole bunch of round pieces. Beat the egg whites until foamy in one bowl and pour the parmesan cheese into another bowl. Spray a cookie sheet with Pam. Dip your slices of eggplant first into the egg whites, then press them into the parmesan cheese on each side. Place the slices onto the cookie sheet. When all the slices are ready, spray them on the top with Pam. Bake them for 10 minutes, then flip them over and bake for another 20 minutes. Warm the spaghetti sauce in the microwave until it's nice and hot. When the eggplant is done, put it on your plate and spoon some spaghetti sauce on top. YUMMY!!
I also tried to make eggplant lasagna (you just use eggplant instead of noodles) but the eggplant came out kind of rubbery. I am going to try it again soon, but this time I will slice the eggplant thinner and steam it first!
Even though I sort of sucked on the exercise thing last week, I still lost 3.6 pounds. I am super psyched to keep on going now, since my jeans are a little looser and I don't have quite as much spare tire and muffin top. I even wore a skirt to church on Sunday that I haven't worn in almost a year -- a super-cute Talbots pencil skirt that my Mom gave me -- and my sexy red spike heels that complete my life. *love*
BTW - Shane has only lost a couple pounds so far, but I know he's lost some serious inches... he's still sticking it out with me!
FOLLOW UP: The eggplant parm makes 2 large servings, but I wanted the kids to try it too so I made two batches for dinner last night... I should have made three. They LOVED it! : )
AND! I'm glad I posted that I was going to do better on the exercise this week -- we KILLED IT on the elliptical last night for 30 minutes.
